Excellent hardware, slightly lacking software

The RG cube XX is by far my favourite handheld gaming device, with a good battery life, a wonderful screen, and very comfortable controls.

Gaming performance is also not bad at all, allowing you to comfortably play games from devices including the PS1, some N64, and some PSP.

However, the default firmware is lacking in the UI department. For example, you need to go into the settings menu any time you want to do game streaming, and it's just a general pain to navigate on the device.

For the price that it's at, I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a high quality handheld. However, to get the most out of it, being a bit tech savvy will certainly help.

Perfect for most retro games.

I've previously bought the RG35XX Plus and the RG35XX and was quite happy with them. My only gripe was that the devices were a little too small for my hands and would give me cramps after a while.
So I've been looking for a wider handheld to fit my needs and after doing some research came to the conclusion that the RG CubeXX was combining two things I wanted:
- More space for my hands
- More real estate on screen

Initially I was hesitant due to the square design because I usually either play 4:3 or 16:9 factors. However, I found that especially for the 80s and 90s era of 8 and 16 bit consoles (GB, NES, SNES, Genesis etc.) this was just great. The 720p resolution gives you plenty of options for filters and just looks super sharp. The square design also looks much better on vertical scrollers from the arcade (1941 etc.) because you're not confined to the 4:3 or widescreen which can look weird on vertical bullet-hell type games.
Battery life is awesome, I've played for hours on a long drive and still have over 75% left on the charge. Also the device doesn't get hot after a while which is also nice.

The quality of the product is great, although the buttons are a bit loud at times. The device feels great in your hands due to the left and right handles fitting nicely into your palms. (this is something I don't like about other devices that are plain flat).

All in all, I'd argue there is no better device for this type of content I'm playing. Bear in mind that I don't play more modern games (PS1 and up) so I recommend this device mostly for 2d content.

My only small gripe is the size of the digital shoulder buttons. They are a bit small for my fingers and I end up pressing the analog shoulder buttons instead. This isn't a big deal as you can easily change the analog buttons to be used instead of the smaller digital ones (for example, on games like Super Mario Kart or F-Zero you need them a lot).

Thank you Anbernic!

Stellar Affordabke Handheld

Super happy with this handheld but after I wasn't sure what to expect. The Sega style D pad was a huge surpise and I love it! The screen also is odd but Inset all the consoles to 8/7 ratio and they use up the screen and look great. CubeXX handles all the classic conoles plus N64, Dreamcast and useable for some DS titles. It can run PSP but the screen format isn't a good fit. Install Knulli on the CubeXX and its an amazingly great deal on a wonderful handheld. This compliments my Anbernic SP with the dual analog sticks and Sega D Pad. The CubeXX has quickly become one of my favorite handhelds. It really surprised me.

Best At what it does !

Very comfortable for your hands with it's buttons, joystick. It really does stuff for it's specs and much more ! There are limitations for example still haven't figured out how to install TF2 and" installing"stuff is more complex than other anbernic consoles. Lots of people complain about the aspect ratio but I really don't mind it's cool ! All in all it is very good for it's price and what it does !! I'm having great time with it !
