Optimal comfort.

I got the Anbernic RG CubeXX a couple of weeks ago and the first thing I noticed is how good it feels to hold in the hand. The ergonomic bumps really help with comfort and ease of use.

The screen is another big (pun not intended) plus, it is 4" in practice but not quite in paper (so 3.95" if you're feeling nitpicky). Yet that size along with the 1:1(ie square) aspect ratio makes it an ideal general use device. Honestly the only console that I play regularly which might not be a great fit for it is PS1 and even then it's very much far from being a bad experience out of the box with no tweaks to video settings.

The disc-shaped 'floating' style D-pad surprised me. It is as comfortable to use as the device is to hold because it feels firm enough yet not overly stiff. And it's surprisingly accurate too! I have had no trouble playing precision-platformer and the like. The shoulders and triggers buttons are similar with having a great feel but still being responsive.

By comparison, the joysticks are just fine even though they have cardinal snapping and wishing they could be hall effect joysticks instead. The face buttons' action feels good and responsive, though as a personal preference I prefer flat buttons to rounded-top ones. Though neither of these nitpicks brings down the overall experience of the device for me.

Overall I greatly recommend the Anbernic RG CubeXX if your main consideration is comfort. The grips on the device paired with the big screen will go a long way to satisfying those needs.

Fantastic

This device is amazing. If you delve into the forums you can really personalize your cubexx. I put a custom firmware on it and dumped tons of games onto it. Super Smash Bros for the N64 works on it. It’s wild. All kinds of games I’d never expect to work, work perfectly. PSP works super well, as well. It completely surprised me that I could play metal gear solid. If you’re debating, just pull the trigger and buy one. You won’t regret it.

Really cool but very complicated

Awesome when everything works well. Retroarch breaks often. Also had to watch many videos by other owners of the device to even figure out what I'm doing and spent over 10 hours doing so. Even with that it is very hard to find videos about certain devices. I still have no idea how to update the firmware or even transfer it to a new sd card. I tried a new card and the device wouldn't even turn on. But if you eventually figure stuff out the device is very fun and has a lot of potential to play any nostalgic game from any location,on any TV, and with any controller. Hope future devices are more user friendly
