Never been more excited to write a review

I grew up during the prime time of handhelds ive had them all from the gameboy pocket to the Nintendo ds and psp what I love about the rg cube is that it feels like a lost cousin to those aforementioned consoles it feels great to hold all the buttons feel amazing the 1:1 screen POPS plays everything up to ps2 although on ps2 you need to tweak it a bit which is fine I was originally going to get a retroid pocket 6 but chose pocket ability over power and im glad I did

What a great device!!!

I bought this pretty tihng thinking only about reselling it, I already had an Odin 2 and an RGB30, was more than happy with my setup.
What happened? Why did I fell in love with this?
I have no idea, but this is the only device I've been using since it arrived, it's confortable, super cute and plays everything I want to. The only way it could be better would be a qualcomm soc to have better drivers (turnip) and linux support. Maybe for the future RG Cube 2?
Also, more support for custom ROMs from Anbernic would be awesome!

Pretty good for the size and money

The best device for the money that can play DS/3DS games with a comfortable ergonomic layout, powerful enough hardware, and with the dual screens stacked atop each other. Slight light bleed in the latest batch, but not really noticeable during actual gameplay. A great upgrade to the RG353P I was using before for retro games.

I'm even able to play Burnout 3 on the PS2 at a full 60fps with a patch that disables a few things like bloom and motion blur. With the latest nightlies of the relevant emulators, everything up to the Wii/3DS works great excluding the PS3 (needs an x86 system) and Saturn (complex emulation means some games work great and others require a supercomputer to run). Also plays native Android games like GTA: San Andreas well.

An upgraded device with a 5.3" 1:1 screen with 3.75" length/width would be the endgame here as that would support both the 3DS and PSP in actual screen size. Throw in 960px across both sides and you have enough to double the pixels of the native platforms. A nice etched OLED screen to play in any environment and I'm sold. Please Anbernic, I want to throw more money at you.

My RG Cube Review

Pros:
Emulation: Everything up to PS2, Gamecube, and some Switch games.

Feel of RG Cube: Feels like a Dreamcast Controller to me.

ABS Plastic: Youtube reviewers say it’s cheap. It’s not cheap plastic.

Cast: There are downsides, but a fix. I mention it in the Cons. You don’t need an USB-C to HDMI. Make sure you match your tv’s IP address that it’s using from your internet service provider. On the Cube you will need to go into your Network and then settings. You will need to go to advance settings after. Change your network from HDCP to Static. You can will type in the Network IP address your tv is using. You can then cast your device to your tv.

Battery: Depending on the game
8-16bit no problem and more than 7 hours. 8-9
32 and above: 5-6 hours of gameplay.

Cons:
More Instructions: Anbernic sorry, but you need to be more in-depth with all of the features your products have to offer. You’re relying heavily on Youtubers to push your products and they miss key features.

Joysticks: Joysticks can be updated with a software fix. The movement is very poor. An example is the very first stage of Sonic Adventures 2 for the Dreamcast. Makes it very unplayable boarding down the street.

Screen Casting: Again another software fix to have the screen fit “true to size” of your television. If casting stops you have to reset your Network settings. This will allow you again you cast to your tv.

Overall:
The RG Cube gets a 4/5 from me. If Anbernic can fix those key Cons I’ve mentioned with better overall communication with their consumers they would get a 5/5. These are your products and not anyone else’s problems to find fixes and solutions. You need to do better on that end

Almost Perfect

So my main issue with the Cube is that built in front end. It should not only be able to scan roms on an SD card. If someone were to buy the standard edition. Like I did. They are not gonna be able to use the built in frontend which is a shame since there's a whole dedicated button towards it. But that's pretty much my only real problem. Everything else about it I love. I love the hardware. The emulation quality is great. And the games require almost no tinkering at all to get running good. I think this is probably the best device to come out so far by Anbernic and I really hope we get to see more unique ideas like this in the future.

Way to go PS2/wii handheld

I never came around playing games such as

Valkerie profile 2 (ps2) twice
Final fantasy X (ps2),
monster hunter 2 -although who needs it in console form with mhnow bringing the formula down to the essence- or
wild arms/suikoden V. (Ps2)

And for Wii Last story, pandoras Tower, final fantasy Crystal Bearers (nunchuck/wii mote actions and right analog stick are customizable).

And now i finally can.
I do it as handheld or through usbC to hdmi on my bigger than life tv.
The ps2/wii games run wonderfully with the right settings and for some patches applied. For VP2, use the fan hd remake pnatch on the usa release.

Ds runs well too, i can finally play the english patch of Soma Bringer - an monolith soft japan only release - with awesome hand drawn artwork.

I also really dig the bluetooth capabilities
so i can hook up my Beowulf portal from bang & olufsen wirelessly.

The grip and aurora lights on the c sticks are very comfortable and soothing design and heighten the pleasure to play on the Cube.

I chose the purple color and it looks delightful irl. Some lighttypes make it almost look brown. I like that as well about the color.

really great device really a keeper for daily use.
In valkerie profile 2 i make allot of mistakes. All emulator have instant save and load capabilities making the games a breeze to play.

Some games such as xenoblade chonicles Wii, run too fast in native resolution. In 3.5 resolution they run as normal and look even more stunning than the original or the remake for sure.

The update Anbernic provided recently can be applied within the android OS.

One more thing

I also use the xxSP. I need my panya golf psp fix when commuting, and i keep the cube for home.

I only wait for Y X Nordics this fall, but with anbernic machines the wait is decimal, and by the way im too busy to get bored anyway.

The Anbernic cube magic

We bought the Anbernic cube.
It runs android and at first glance there are so many options that it is a bit overwhelming.
However I am now completely educated in what it can do. The cube is amazing. As I am sure the other products will also be.
I bought for my son and also a bit for me. As I wanted him to experience the old arcade games. I made a setting with shaders to replicate the old crt screens and used a custom resolution to make it the best experience I can get. It doesn't disappoint.
It is awesome. You can do all the old consoles I think up to PS2 but for now the full arcade experience is what we wanted and got in full effect!

Gameplay is pretty solid

Gameplay is pretty solid for most systems. I got my Cube to play games that cap at GameCube. It sputters on some GameCube games at first, depending on how much is involved with a particular game (graphics and other technical stuff I'm not well versed in), but then it levels out and plays well.

Easy Setup and Good Storage, Buttons are a little stiff

Bought this to replace my game boy and ds and I was pleasantly surprised on how easy this was to set up. I originally thought that I would need to buy an sd card but 128 GB ended up being more than enough to hold all my gb and ds games that I was replacing this with and more. Took one star off because the buttons are a little stiff and clicky but I'm hoping they will get better over time.

great little portable console

Great little portable console. Excellent battery life and surprisingly powerful. Doesn't get hot and runs quietly. Good ergonomics (which becomes great if you have smaller hands). Really happy with my purchase. The screen is on the small side and doesn't work great for all the types of consoles you might want to emulate, but that's easily fixed by hooking it up to a monitor or TV. No instructions included, so you'll need to look things up online, but there are plenty of tutorials out there and you can sort everything out in no time.

Perfect product, looking for a last bit of documentation and stability

If the title doesn't say everything: Shipping works pretty fine (China -> Europe). Equipment has a decent quality, especially for cost-gain. The product just works. Sometimes you can see there is a last bit of special cases that need that last bit of tuning. (E.g Updated changing the behaviour of a button slightly to work on a long press instead a short press without properly notifying the user or janky translations like the request for a restart after an update asking in a way that makes you guess).

You can play all the games as advertised with this device and you get a fully functioning and therefore customizable android with that. Which is nice.

Battery holds long and steady, performance is as decent as expected with the specs the machine has. Fast charge is supported (yay for proper adaption of USB-C standards).

You can see a great deal of care has been put into the product as many details (such as providing custom pre-installed backgrounds) are included in the product.

Now there is only one larger caveat which I believe might be specific to european customers: The documentation is a bit lacking. You recieve your device, you get instructions how to turn it on and then... the instructions stop. Therefore a bit of exploration is necessary and you can find an app with more (sometimes a little mis-translated) instructions. Soo.... a little more handholding on "How to use the stuff that anbernic specifically put on this device for me the user to enjoy" would improve this from 4->5 stars. And an increase in translation quality.

Overall: very solid. Works where it needs to.

The RG Cube is a mini boss!

It handles most games so well. The shape is perfect for comfort. It feels very sturdy and high quality for sure. Don't regret getting it at all! Please do not get it mixed up with the XX model.

A powerful little handheld.

First of all, don't get confused with this model and the cube xx. This is a great little handheld that can perform really well. The form factor offers a nice screen size, plenty of room for your hands, and solid controls. Being an android device is a bonus as well, as possibilities are endless.

Amazing

The console is really really good for its price tag, only negatives i can give is for charging cable, sometimes it doesn't detect the cable until I restart the device for some weird reason. Aside of that amazing performance, great ergonomics, really good choice of OS (android), decent screen and solid battery life. Could change to 5 star if the Charging problem gets solved
