Love it

I absolutely love using the Anbernic RG40XXV. From the moment I picked it up, I was hit with a wave of nostalgia. Playing classic Pokémon games on this device takes me right back to my childhood—those late nights under the blanket with a Game Boy, trying to catch ‘em all. The feeling is almost identical, but even better thanks to the RG40XXV’s modern enhancements.

The build quality is outstanding. It feels solid and premium in your hands, with buttons that are satisfying to press and a bright, crisp screen that really brings old-school graphics to life. Everything runs smoothly, and the emulation is top-notch—no lag, no glitches, just pure retro gaming bliss.

Whether I’m exploring Kanto again or just reliving moments from other classic titles, the RG40XXV makes it all feel fresh and exciting. It’s not just a handheld—it’s a time machine. Highly recommended for anyone who loves retro gaming, especially fellow Pokémon fans.

Not Impressed With The White Color Option

I own a Silver RG35XXSP and feel it's a really solid product. For this reason, I trusted Anbernic to equally impress me with the RG40XXV.

The screen size and quality is the highlight of the 40XXV and one of two reasons for my purchase (the other is the classic GameBoy form factor).

I ordered white, and the white plastic color makes the device look really cheap. It feels solid and has a nice texture, but the look/color has a fake-like hue. It's probably just a bad color choice. I cannot speak to the other color options, but they didn't look as appealing to me on the website and in the marketing materials.

Other than appearance, it's pretty light and the build quality seems good. I'll end up setting up the device with my own OS and ROMS, but I don't know that it'll get much use over my 35XXSP. The 35XXSP is just so pocketable and has the clamshell that protects the screen. Luckily I have two boys that may enjoy it, so this purchase isn't at all wasted. For under $60, and the fact that it has a decent OS and ROMS out of the box, it really is a great product. Overall, I'm just not sure I chose the right color option -- maybe there should be more colors to choose from.

For a larger screen and more premium experience, I've ordered the Retroid Pocket 5. But that will require a lot more setup before it's playable.

Great handheld console

This device works great as a handheld emulator. The battery life is good and it charges quickly. The interface is intuitive and easy to follow. Would definitely recommend this product.

nearly nothing bad to say

works perfect, didnt had any problems (using it now for a i think nearly a month + i got the RG505 for my girlfriend) custom firmware pushed it from a 8/10 to a 9/10
the only thing that i hate is the charging times, it takes loooong. rly long. theres no recharge quick in 60mins or even 120mins.
from 0% to 100% is (for my device) around 3-4hours
when on 100% it takes mine around 6-8 hours to run dry (GBA games)
overall for that price a solid device (get your own microSD card/s)

if anbernic staff is reading, for the next version, move the speaker more in the middle, its easy to cover the speaker with your hand at the moment

Good Product

I've had the handheld for a few weeks but haven't had a chance to explore everything yet. So far, it's a good product. The D-pad is a little stiff. I'm hoping it will loosen up with use. But overall, I can't complain.
