I brought because I need something tobplay while waiting to save and then buy a steam deck. I play all the sense, gbc, and gba....and maybe n64. Psx and psp barely work but I still use it.

GreT handheld with a fantastic oled screen,perfect for gba and psp..not the most powerful device but,I love it and got it on sale.

The OLED screen is amazing and the case design is a lot more comfortable than previous designs. The controls and speakers are good. I've got mine running JELOS and I'm very happy with the performance. I'm happily playing PS1, Saturn, Dreamcast, and PSP with no problems. N64 requires some settings tweaking but most titles are playable. For the price this is an excellent device. I can't emphasize enough how nice the OLED screen is.

At the $139 price-point, this device delivered. The screen is amazing, the unit is very lightweight (Li-Po battery), and it plays the classics from NES, SNES, Genesis very well. I tried a couple N64 games with mixed results, PS1 likely similar. I’m more of a 2D retro fan so this device fits my needs, but I am wishing I had opted for a device with more refined OS, Settings, and app switching such as a device that can run windows.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Kodi is installed and after some research, found there’s a Plex addin for Kodi. I wish I could install Plex natively, but don’t see a path for that yet.

On that note, I wish there was more official documentation and a central forum for Anbernic customers to help one-another. There’s a good chance some of my pain points have solutions. While they should work out-of-the-box, I’d be partially satisfied if there was a manual configuration available.

I expected more from the OS and factory settings. I haven’t been able to get game save states to work, or locate anything in the stock OS settings related to this functionality.

The charging states are really bizarre. When the device is in stand-by/hibernation and plugged in to charge, the system wakes up as soon as it hits 100%. Aside from waking me up with the bright light, this also makes it leave charging mode (despite still being plugged in) and the device drains to 30% by the time I wake up in the morning.

The volume setting also doesn’t show an overlay while playing a game, and the device forgets the previous volume setting upon a restart (defaulting to a pretty loud level).

Restarts are also a common occurrence because entering each game seems to reboot the device into a device-specific emulator OS. It’s bearable but not as slick as opening/closing/switching apps like we’re all accustomed from our phones.

I have had mine for a week or so now and this thing is what i wanted from my 351mp hdmi out with bluetooth to xbox one controllers is awsome on my 82inch tv.
The plastics could be a bit more rigid and the power and vol buttons feel softer than i would have liked everthing works great out of the box up to play station one
you cant go wrong anything after that is going to need tweeking with in the system files great product for some old school gaming on the go or as a home console for you and a friend

The big screen is beautiful, and with vertical arcade mode, you turn it sideways and games like Centipede and Donkey Kong fill the screen! There is finally custom firmware, JELOS and ArKOS which both run PSP, Dreamcast and Saturn much better than the stock OS...still not 100% but better than most handhelds, although I wish Anbernic would upgrade theirs. Overall, very happy with this unit.

Plays most games well, but plays PSP games a bit rough. The game selection was a bit lacking(no Mario games at all), however it's easy to add games yourself.

Happy with the console all most of the my childhood games are in the console the n64 games run more or less good I can live with that overall is a good console especially the oled screen.

First thing you'll notice: gorgeous display!
This plays a lot of games well, even some you might expect to overtax it! The fan-made alternate OS'es are worth trying too, though some of the hardware (Bluetooth, headphone jack) don't yet work quite as expected in those. Dual SD design is brilliant. Surprisingly this handheld became my default way to play Cave Story and PICO-8 games. Also great for GBA, PS1, NES, SNES, and other older game systems once I found out how to get the scaling the way I like it and put all my disc rips and BIOS+cartridge dumps in the right folders!

Plays emulation of most major older systems well. Can add more games easily via sd card. Arrived quickly and packaged well. Recommended if you love old retro arcade and old consoles in a handheld. The OLED screen is crisp and clear too.

Well i knew form the beging what i was getting and this retro handheld is perfect add to that it has an oled screen
what else can i say i wont except to play new generations games on it with a few psp and dreamcast is all i need.

I am new to the handheld world, did some research and decided to go with the RG503 over a few other manufacturers. Can't say how pleased I am with the choice. Definitely a high quality product and I exceeded my expectations thus far.
I've had it for about a month and it's been amazing. Definitely recommend this device and Anbernic.

It really is worth the money. I own a 351v also. Yea the screen is what makes it. So big and beautiful. I bought the pre loaded sd card and everything came as discribed. Took only about two weeks to ship and was packed very good. Would recommend

I do love it...love the lcd of course, it just needs some firmware updates to make it really shine or even when the cfw scene starts releasing for the 503, it's only going to get better!

This is by far the best screen on any handheld console games look amazing and the colours pop the.The speakers are good as well give you stereo sound the grips at the back is good when holding the handheld not slippery this is by far the best retro handheld good price nice design oled screen what is not to like 10/9 nice work anbernic team it’s my favourite handheld now

I got the unit a couple of days ago, overall I'm quite happy with it. First off the screen is great, easily the selling point of the unit. Also it's pretty comfortable to hold - I wouldn't mind if it was thicker and had proper L2 and R2 buttons, but considering the limited power of this system, it's not like most games will use that feature. Also the unit in person looks really nice, and feels good, doesn't look or feel cheap.

On the down side is the power. They list the N64, but good luck getting anything to play at a decent framerate. Also Dreamcast games don't run at full speed, although it's better than the N64. NDS also runs slow. PSP isn't gonna play well either. Other less powerful systems run great however, so just keep your expectations in check and you'll be good. Also there is always the possibility that new firmware, or 3rd party firmware, might get some performance increases, but I wouldn't count on it.

But I just wanted it for GBA and below systems, plus the PSX, I knew going in the limitations of the system - and I was fine with that. Before this I was using a much more powerful phone, but it's just not comfortable to hold with a controller wrapped around it, and also I have a RG350m, which I've never found comfortable to hold.

Pros:

- Great choice of SoC, even though it's a bit early for it, so not all will work properly yet, but when the software is ready this will provide all the performance I will need for many, many years. Not every handhdeld out there can play absolutely every PS1 games at full speed, and other games like Yoshi's Island which are demanding. This handheld will be able to do it all.

- Ergonomics are great. I like to hold this device in my hands. I say this because many other handhelds out there are not made this way. The texture has a nice smooth feel to it that allows my fingers to grip the console properly, and even better are the bulges on the back. The semi rounded sides of the console are perfect! It is a vast improvement over the rg351v, which was too soft and strange to hold.

- Surprisingly, I can actually use the L2 and R2 comfortably thanks to the size of the system! I don't think I even need stacked shoulder buttons, although it wouldn't hurt to have them.

- When it comes to the analog sticks, allow me to say THANK YOU! There are still so many handhelds coming out with reverse left stick and d-pad placement. This is the correct way to do it. Don't change, please!

Things I would like improved in future handhelds:

- The screen. Ok, so this is a nice OLED screen with high enough quality with its high resolution that allows up to PSP games to scale properly, most accurate colors than other handhelds and the pure black that comes with OLED. But there are still some problems with it, particularly in the dark red colors which become dark gray instead. Because of this, I would rather not have this same screen on the next handheld I buy. But at the same time, I hope it's OLED, if there was an rg503 version 2, I'd find another OLED screen that improves this. (Not sure if there are others with this same res, at that point it would probably have to be a 720p screen from a phone)

- The buttons. They're definitely better here, but still not ideal for a handheld. Instead of rubber pads, I'd prefer dome switches, like the PS Vita, 3DS and Switch joycons, these allow more precise controls, especially on the d-pad, as it gives you a tactile response when you input diagonals, and overall separates diagonals better from the main 4 directions. On the rg503, and every other Anbernic handheld, this problem with accidental diagonal presses continues to hurt the experience significantly. (It could even make Mario stop in SMB1 if you move right but accidentally press diagonal right+down).
All buttons should be dome switches, including start+select and shoulder buttons.

- Reset / Function buttons. These should not be next to each other, this is actually really dangerous, you could accidentally lose all your progress in a game when you just meant to press the function button to open a menu or something. This was fine on the rg351v, with the reset button being next to the power button, and nothing else.

- Maybe start and select buttons should be lowered, because when I use the d-pad, I can still touch the select button with the tip of my thumb. The placement is good enough, but it is raised a bit too high.

I like your devices. I own 6 different types of handhelds you sell. I cant wait until you make one with a 7 inch screen.

The build quality and the oled screen are awesome. Its comfortable
to hold in the hand. The only hardware issue i have is that they still arent using stacked shoulder buttons. However the firmware it ships with is terrible. Most retroarch menu is missing. Scummvm simply doesn't work even after trying several different methods of trying. Once better firmware comes out by 3rd party devs. It will be amazing. Anbernic really needs to hire some of these devs to get good software at release rather than waiting for 3rd party devs to do it for them
